A study of how to go on:

I was always told that hope is the intangible that exists to stand in the path of despair. Hope is the dam of despair that holds it back from its full fruition. Despair will not win because of hope.

But, I'm coming to see that Hope exists, despite despair. That hope is not destroyed when despair walks on, as it so often does, right past. And yet, hope does not destroy despair. Often, despair does walk on past, continue on its way, unphased - unscathed by hope. Often, despair marches forward while hope waits on the sideroad.

Hope is the sideroad. Hope is what we can glimpe when we are not looking to see the road. Hope is the path through the forest that the eye cannot find, that the tracer cannot trace, that the ranger would not take. Hope is intangible, but it does not stand in the face of despair. Rather it waits to be found, silently resting in the quiet places of this world.

Much more subtle than I had though. Than I had been searching for.
Hope is the wild that stretches on despite how bad the city will clog with smoke and fire. Hope is the expanse of space that will always stand as a testiment to what we cannot destroy.

Hope is the outside of us. It calls from somewhere we have trouble understanding, in order to remind us that we are not so concentrated as we believe we are.

There is other life out there, outside of us - not above. There is always existence, always will, always has. And despite how strongly despair may hold us in this time and place, we will always have been a part of that existence, will always have the potential to exist, can always be a part of everything else. And it cannot be taken away in the way the universe and the stretches between what we know and do not know cannot be.

And that is hope.

Despite my corner of this unierse, despite the despair standing to block my road, there will always be plces despair will never reach, never block, never stake any claim.

So, hope will always have a hold.
